This rotation is a one-block exposure to community emergency medicine at the Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center
in Honolulu. Third-year residents choosing this elective will manage patients in the ED presenting with a wide variety of acute complaints under the supervision of attending physicians. The population has a unique culture and a higher percentage of elderly patients. This elective also provides an opportunity for residents to practice in a health maintenance organization (HMO) care setting. Additionally, the residents will have eight hours of didactic training in hyperbaric medicine at the Kuakini Medical Center.
